It is also the smallest of the three neighborhoods shipped with The Sims 2; there are 11 lots, one of which has not yet been built on, and 187 Sims. Strangetown is the neighborhood used in the The Sims 2 for Nintendo DS and GBA versions of the games, although only Tank Grunt and Johnny Smith make an appearance. Sims mods are for THE SIMS 2 Posted by HChangeri on March 19, 2011. Just an FYI, all the meshes here are for The Sims 2, not The Sims 3. The last expansion pack I bought was Freetime. I have no idea if my content will work with the EPs that came out afterwards. If you have the later EPs and content doesn't work, then the content doesn't work.
Welcome to Nekojima: a small island off the coast of Takemizu, where the cats outnumber the townspeople and everyone knows how to fish.
Nekojima’s normally a quiet, cozy little place, watched over by Toomo, its resident goddess. But last year two of the island’s favorite citizens (and best fisherpeople) were lost at sea in a dangerous storm. Their families are still reeling from the blow.
Toshi Utagawa’s back in town, bringing along a baby and a slightly damaged heart. Speaking of hearts, there’s a new doctor in town that’s stolen a few. And the peace up at the ryokan’s been broken by the owners’ grandson. They can hear his guitar all the way down to the beach. We haven’t even mentioned the usual crop of summer guests! That mysterious writer doesn’t seem like she plans to head home any time soon, and some reporter’s been picking a fight with Nekojima’s only resident celebrity. He can’t be very good at his job….
It’s up to the Simmer to soothe things down - or stir them up even more!
Shout out to our playtesters, @yuka-sims, @letthemplaysims, @dunne-ias & @ejsims, too! You guys really helped make the hood as good as it could possibly be.
There’s a bit of information under the cut, along with the download link. Developer notes, required CC (just a little, we promise!), install instructions, all that good stuff. Read on & enjoy!

General Notes
A few things to know before you get started:
- Nekojima probably isn’t beginner friendly in the same way the Maxis hoods are. It’s quite intricate and overall more focused on storytelling than gameplay, although it should still be plenty of fun to play!
- There are some pretty sad elements. Grief is atheme in more than one household, but there’s ample opportunity for the player to cheer things up.
- This is a roadless neighbourhood! This means you won’t be able to place new lots down, or move existing ones around. We think of the inability to place new lots as a feature ;) After all, it’s a remote island! If you try moving a lot and can’t get it to go back, just hit the escape key.
- There are 8 unnocupied lots and one large empty 4x4 lot that could be used to build some apartments, if you’re desperate to get more families in there.
- “Main Street” makes use of a few stacked lots, so that sims can live above their shops without having to run them as a home business! This could cause camera issues for some players and might take a little getting used to, but we feel like the aesthetic is worth it. Increasing the fade distance or turning off imposter lots altogether may help, if you find it a pain to play them.
- The School & the Karaoke Bar are owned by townies. This allows for owned businesses which aren’t run by sims, but also means it’s trickier for players to make alterations to those lots.
- We couldn’t work out a way to have a working hotel with playable guests, so Steamed Bun Springs is a household you need to get a little creative with.
- Likewise, The Cat in the Bamboo Forest (an art gallery) can be run as a business in a number of ways. You can either have the artist paint and set the paintings for sale, or simply sell prints (we have included recolours of a maxis painting for this exact purpose, see reccomended downloads below.)
- There are sims in the neighbourhood who went to collegeaccording to their memories, but we chose not to give them expanded want panels. They are easy enough to add with the batbox or other hack objects if desired.
- A few of the lots use the cafeteria stove which came withuniversity. If you have mods to spawn a cafeteria worker, you may runinto problems with these! Either switch them out for another stove, or removethe mod in question.
- Minoru Fujiwara, the town doctor, is related to the Nagatatownie/NPC family. However, they don’t show up on his family tree as weenvisage them being quite distant relatives, and didn’t want to make a bunch ofdead sims for ancestry purposes.
- If you have trouble with graves not appearing in the churchyard, try running the Hoodchecker!
Required CC
We’ve tried to keep the neighbourhood as cc-free as we could, but there are a small number of things we had to include for practical purposes or to preserve a specific idea we had.
- Invisible Fishing Pond. For fishing off the dock!
- Castaway stories stone fence. You can get it from meetme’s full bundle, or just grab the fence only HERE.
- Marvine’s ladder. A must-have for tiny houses!
- This set of custom paintings. Extract them into the My Documents/EA Games/Sims 2/Paintings folder. These are for one of the sims in the neighbourhood who is a painter!
- Invisible iron fence. This is used to keep routing sensible on the stacked lots.
- Skell’s Asian Clothes & Takemizu Village Locals Completer.
Recommended Mods & CC
There aren’t any mods you absolutely need to play Nekojima, but for the best possible experience (in addition to the usual corruption-saving and anti-regen mods) we have a few other recommendations:
Sims 2 Custom Neighborhood Download
- These wall hanging recolours, for The Lady In Red & the Sims 3 plumbbob poster. Could come in handy for players who want to sell prints in the gallery instead of keeping the poor artist at the easel 24/7.
- No memories clear. Townies in this hood all have detailed memories it would be a shame to lose! Squinge’s No Townies Memory Loss didn’t seem to do the trick 100%, but this has worked well in our testing.
- Hire family members. The Sushi restaurant makes use of hired family. It will still play fine without this mod, but you won’t be able to change family member wages or assignments without it.
- Allow strays on community lots. It just doesn’t feel like Nekojima without a few strays showing up wherever you go!
- Perfect Plants OR Trim Inaccessible Bushes and Water Inaccessible Flowers. Should come in handy for managing gardens.

Beacon FallsThis is a custom made neighborhood for use with The Sims 2 game. It was originally put together in 2006 by myself and eighteen other forum members from TSR (listed below). With 'the team' now pretty much gone from the community, I have been updating this new version through October and November 2011, after having scanned them with Mootilda's HoodChecker program. There have also been a few 'housekeeping' changes made, such as weather proofing the houses and community lots for use with the Seasons EP.
I've rewritten some of the family descriptions and bio's, and I have changed the spelling of Aimee Pembroke's name, to just Amy! The memories Hood Checker found there was something wrong with have all been fixed, and in some cases the order other memories appeared in have been altered so that they make sense, or they might have been changed to appear 'red' (if this was applicable). Two Sim aspiration levels have been changed to reflect their storyline, and there are other 'odd little things' where I wondered 'why did I do that?', and these have been changed. Hopefully for the better!
Updates: Oct 2010 - The subhoods Balloth, Prometedor and Isle St. Croix, according to Mootilda's subhood tutorial.
Updates: Oct/Nov 2011 - The neighborhoods Beacon Falls 'Full' and 'Lite', and the subhoods Balloth and Prometedor, according to Mootilda's HoodChecker program.
The full version of Beacon Falls contains the main town of Beacon Falls, it's vibrant downtown area, Lustre Point, and the local college, Balise University. As with the EA/Maxis original neighborhoods, Beacon Falls includes families already edited and set up in certain situations, for you to take a look at and decide to play out their dreams, or wreak havoc in their lives! For people with slower connections, lower specification computers, or those not wanting to use the downtown and university provided, there is a cut down version called Beacon Falls Lite. This only includes the main town, and has fewer townies. You can find both downloads in their respective posts, the Lite version has a link to files for the missing Uni and downtown, if you want to add any of the buildings or sims from either of those to the game yourself.
Please note that the Balise and Lustre Point BF'Lite'-Lots+Families files have not been weather proofed, or otherwise updated.
In the links to the right of this page, each neighborhood or subhood will be clearly labelled, as will the installation instructions, add-on lots and extra downloads. New Stories pages have been added to give you an idea of the families, so that you'll know what you're getting!
New for November 2011, some of the downtown houses have been made into proper apartments, please note that many of these will require EP's and SP's up to Mansion and Gardens, and can be found on the Downloads pages.
Beacon Falls 'Full' requires - The base game/ University/ Nightlife/ Open for Business EP's, as well as the Family Fun Stuff SP. (Or any of the later expansion packs)
Beacon Falls 'Lite' requires - The base game/ University/ Nightlife/ Open for Business EP's. (Or any of the later expansion packs)
Balloth requires - The base game/ University/ Nightlife/ Open for Business EP's. (Or any of the later expansion packs) This is a business district containing ready made families with their own storylines.
Prometedor requires - University/ NightLife/ Open for Business/ Seasons and Bon Voyage.
You NEED to have Bon Voyage installed. This is an island Bon Voyage vacation destination based on a Spanish/Mexican/Baja Coast theme with its own custom locals and tourists. If you still want Prometedor but have missing earlier EP's, it would be a good idea to check the lots before sending sims on holiday there in order to replace any missing items with other wall coverings, floorings and/or furniture.
Isle St. Croix requires - University/ NightLife/ Open for Business/ Seasons and Bon Voyage.
You NEED to have Bon Voyage installed. This is a mountain Bon Voyage destination, but with no added sims. If you still want Isle St. Croix but have missing earlier EP's, it would be a good idea to check the lots before sending sims on holiday there in order to replace any missing items with other wall coverings, floorings and/or furniture.
Mootilda noted in Balise University, that there had been a few kitchens with no available space for food preparation..these have been checked and fixed! I also have added extra want slots and locks to sims supposing to have attended university, and you will find their diplomas either on their house walls, or in their inventories. I have made a couple of edits to the 'Lite' version so that it better matches the 'Full' version, such as jobs and aspirations. Though I will not promise that both versions are exactly the same, bio and family description wise!
No characters have been added or taken away, none of the neighborhoods have been further played, except for the Fairfields in each version; because the lot had a floating chimney problem, and the game had to be unpaused for two sim minutes to enable Pescado's stuckobjectremover to zap the offending thingamyjigs!
