An investigation into EFL prep-class students' academic emotions
Abstract
The Achievement Emotions Questionnaire-Mathematics (AEQ-M) is a self-report measure of emotions experienced in class, when self-studying, and during tests for the domain of mathematics. Our aim was to present a Portuguese version of this instrument for use with adolescents and to test its reliability, factorial structure, measurement invariance. The battery included the Ambivalence over Emotional Expression questionnaire (AEQ), a 28-item index of conflict over emotional expression, and the 16-item Emotional Expression questionnaire (EEQ), a measure of behavioral emotional expression. As noted in the introduction, both scales have demonstrated reliability and validity (King & Emmons, 1990).
- The Achievement Emotions Questionnaire (AEQ) is a self-report instrument developed to measure the emotions of students in academic situations. The main purpose of this research was to adapt.
- In this study, it was aimed to adapt The Achievement Emotions Questionnaire for Pre-Adolescents (AEQ-PA) scale developed by Peixoto, Mata, Monteiro, Sanches and Pekrun (2015) to Turkish in order to determine the feelings of success of primary school fourth grade students towards mathematics class and test.
Emotions are of critical importance for college students’ academic performance, personality development, and health. With few exceptions such as research on test anxiety, however, students’ emotions have been neglected by higher education research. The AEQ measures a number of discrete emotions for each of the three main categories of academic achievement situations, that is, attending class, studying, and writing tests and exams. In its current version, the AEQ can be used to assess eight different class-related emotions, eight learning-related emotions, and eight test emotions.
